Fuel Cut Defenser - Experiencing fuel cut with your boosted Protege? This kit will allow you to run increased boost without hitting the dreaded "fuel cut".

Instructions:

PLEASE NOTE- The FCD unit will raise your vehicles fuel cut psi, which is a safety feature designed into the ECU mapping to protect the vehicle from over boosting and causing engine damage. Installation of this unit removes the safety cap and will allow you to overboost your engine. Installation is recommended only by those qualified to alter the vehicle from it's stock form. With this in mind, these instructions are written to give only enough information for an experienced tuner/installer to understand.

The FCD unit hooks between the MAF signal wire and a ground and requires a boost source to switch it on and off. There are two ways to tap the MAF line- one is at the ECU pin 88 and the other is at the MAF sensor pin B- either will work. Tap one wire from the FCD unit to the signal line (the FCD is not polarized, so either wire will work) and the other wire to a good ground. It is preferred that the signal wires be soldered. Once the wiring is completed, run an 1/8" hose from a vacuum pressure source to the fitting on the FCD.

The FCD utilizes a boost switch to activate it which is adjustable. It should be good where it is set, but you may notice that if you go WOT in say 4th gear at 2000 rpms and slowly lug it through the powerband, it may lean out when hits the preset psi and the switch kicks in, or some cars may feel a quick, slight stumble when it kicks in at higher RPM's- this is normal and you can adjust it to raise the psi at which it kicks in to help smooth it out- I can not preset them to work perfectly for every car (come in at the exact time your specific car would need it). Adjustment is easy- if you look at the FCD, you will see an allen screw which requires a 2mm allen wrench- turning the screw clockwise will cause the FCD to kick in at higher boost levels. Note- this does not affect the PSI/airflow at which fuel cut will occur- it will only increase the PSI at which the switch is mechanically activated. If you tighten this screw too much, the switch may not kick on until after the factory fuel cut threshold, which cause the vehicle to fuel cut- so it is recommended you leave it at the factory setting.
